English is fun
Reading - Wolf Hall

August - September 2017
Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel
Hilary Mantel shows us Tudor England in the 1520s. The king without a male hair wants to annul his amrridge of twenty years and marry Anne Boleyn to prevent a civil war. Thomas Cromwell, a political genius, picks his way through a court where man is wolf to man. Pitting himself against parliament, the political establishment and the papacy, he is prepared to reshape England to his own and Henry's desires.
JUSTIFICATION
I have knew about this book and I waited for the summer to read it. It is a thick volume and it needs time. I decided not to lose touch with British history. If I want to remember historic events, the best way to experince them through reading the story.
REFLECTION
Although thick, this book reads well. There are some expression I had to look up:
the second cousin once removed
unsubtle
a piece of scripture
to dissuade
uxorious
to quash
to expiate
a whim (she bought it on a whim)
furred breath
jurisdiction
an emendation
